Just FYI (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our mobile application (the “App”).

Just FYI is designed with privacy as its core principle. We collect minimal data, and what we do collect is anonymized to protect your identity.

Data We Collect

Anonymous Identifier

When you use Just FYI, a unique anonymous identifier is generated for your account. This identifier:

  • Cannot be linked to your personal identity
  • Is not associated with any email, phone number, or account
  • Is stored on your device and securely synced to our servers for functionality
  • Can be recovered using your anonymous ID

Bluetooth Interaction Data

Just FYI uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to record anonymous interactions with other Just FYI users. This data includes:

  • Anonymous identifiers of nearby devices
  • Timestamp of interactions
  • Signal strength (used to estimate proximity)

This data is stored locally on your device and automatically synced to our secure servers to enable contact tracing functionality. Only anonymized data is transmitted.

Exposure Notifications

If you choose to report an exposure:

  • Your anonymous identifier is shared with our notification system
  • No personal information is transmitted
  • Recipients receive anonymous notifications only

How We Use Your Data

We use the collected data solely for the following purposes:

  • Anonymous Interaction Recording: To enable contact tracing without identifying individuals
  • Exposure Notifications: To alert users who may have been exposed to health risks
  • App Functionality: To ensure the app operates correctly

We do not:

  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Use your data for advertising
  • Track your location
  • Collect personal identifying information

Data Retention

On Your Device

  • Interaction history is retained for 180 days by default
  • You can delete your data at any time from the app settings
  • Generating a new anonymous ID removes all previous interaction data

On Our Servers

  • All data is retained for a maximum of 180 days
  • After this period, all data is automatically deleted
  • We do not maintain permanent records of interactions

Your Rights

Under GDPR and other applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:

Access Your Data

You can view all data stored on your device within the app at any time.

Delete Your Data

You can delete all your data by:

  • Clearing your interaction history in the app settings
  • Generating a new anonymous ID
  • Uninstalling the app

Data Portability

You can export your interaction data through the app’s data export feature. Since we only store anonymized data, exported data will contain your interaction history without personal identifiers.

You can stop using the app at any time. Since we don’t collect personal data, no further action is required.

GDPR Compliance

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Lawful Basis: We process data based on legitimate interest in public health and your consent
  • Data Minimization: We collect only the minimum data necessary for the app to function
  • Purpose Limitation: Data is used only for contact tracing purposes
  • Storage Limitation: Data is automatically deleted after 180 days
  • Integrity and Confidentiality: All data is encrypted both at rest and in transit

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • Encryption for all data transmissions (TLS/HTTPS)
  • Local data encryption on your device (AES-256)
  • Secure cloud storage with Firebase
  • Anonymous identifiers only—no personal identity database

Children’s Privacy

Just FYI is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from individuals under 18.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

  • Updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy
  • Providing in-app notification for significant changes
